YOU cannot fail to be impressed with the selection of authentic Indian meals on offer at Bengal Indian Restaurant in Fremantle.

As well as popular choices like butter chicken, lamb korma, beef vindaloo and dahl, not so well known but interesting dishes like beef tarkari, palak gosht, Bengali prawn curry and vegetarian kofta curry feature.

All dietary needs are catered for, with gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan, vegetarian and dishes containing nuts marked on the menu.

The list of entrees is extensive and though the mixed entree was tempting, the spinach pakora and paneer tikka won out.

The latter was a revelation.

Silky pieces of cheese, which had been marinated in yoghurt and spices and cooked in the tandoor oven, were simple but extremely delicious.

The spinach pakora had just the right amount of spice and provided a hefty punch of flavour.

For mains, it was hard to go past house favourites beef masala and butter chicken.

Both curries were amazing and it took self-control to leave the bowls unfinished.
