Too easy to avoid paying a court fine

I NOTE that fining a traffic offender and other lawbreakers rather than time in jail seem to be much the norm nowadays.

To me this is a blatant “finger up” at the law and the public.

How does the court expect to get money from an offender often already owing thousands of dollars in unpaid fines and who often doesn't have the price of a burger but has a good car?

Also recently a person facing a big fine just declared himself bankrupt.

I fail to see how justice can be seen to be done if it is so easy to get away with breaking the law.

What about impounding cars and or property until fines are paid within a reasonable time, or sell them to recoup the fine.

The problem is not solved by taking away their licence either. They either don't know it has been cancelled because they don't receive the notice (for various reasons), or they deliberately drive without a licence. If they then have an accident involving another person, they do not have 3rd Party insurance. This is totally unfair to the innocent 3rd Party.

I say, confiscate their cars and property, sell them and pay the victims of crime what they deserve. If they have no car or property they should be jailed.
