A SMALL shop tucked away in Guildford has been named one of the best chocolatier and sweet shops in WA.
The Dutch Shop on James Street has made the State’s top three in broadcaster SBS’s Feast magazine.
The food publication named the shop in its January edition, which looks at sweet shops across Australia.
The Dutch Shop owner Jeff van Altena said the nomination was a surprise.
“I’m quite stoked about it,” he said.
“It’s humbling; it’s nice to know I’m doing something right.”
Among some of the store’s most popular chocaltes and sweets are De Ruijter chocolate hail, Nusco Chocolate paste, King peppermints and more than 30 varieties of liquorice.
Mr van Altena started the shop seven years ago, following in the footsteps of his parents, who have owned and run a Dutch food store in Sydney for 30 years.
He said when costumers came in, they felt like his store was “a piece of Holland”.
“It really is for the Dutch people,” he said.
