LUXURY and economy combine in the latest version of Hyundai’s flagship, the Grandeur.

Unveiled last month, the 2009 model can be had with either 3.8litre V6 petrol or 2.2 CRDi turbo-diesel power.

The CRDi version, at $41,990, offers 114kW and 343Nm. Official fuel economy is 7.9litres/100km. The motor is the same as used in the Santa Fe.

By comparison, the $39,990 V6 has 194kW and 348Nm and uses 10.8litres/100km.

Both models get a new grille, chrome inserts in the front and rear bumpers, indicators in the door mirrors and new 17-inch alloy wheels.

Interior changes for 2009 include an upgraded eight-speaker audio system with USB audio input with iPod compatibility, USB memory stick, blue illumination and a supply of latex-free vinyl gloves in the CRDi.

The new Grandeur also has automatic door locking, electronic stability and traction control, ABS with electronic brake force distribution, active head restraints and eight airbags.

The long list of luxury items includes a power tilt and telescopic steering wheel, power driver’s seat with memory, electro-chromatic rear view mirror, rain-sensing wipers, auto dusk-sensing headlights and powered folding outside mirrors with auto-dipping in reverse.
